Venue: ARTSCAPE [map]
For the third installment of the JanSport Bonfire Sessions, we headed up to Toronto with one of our favorite (or do they spell it favourite up there?) US bands and a pair of local producers that are rapidly on the rise. The Smith Westerns are from Chicago, but listening to the full-bodied revivalist art-rock on Dye It Blonde, their recent release on Fat Possum, you could see them in nineteen- seventies London opening for glam-rock luminaries like Roxy Music or T. Rex. They performed with Dusted, a new duo comprised of Brian Borcherdt (who you’ve probably heard of from his electronica outfit Holy F*ck) and Leon Taheny, a fantastic new two-piece that plays hazy, melodic folk music. They’ve got a new record coming out through Polyvinyl later this summer.
In addition to the concert line-up, local artist Emily Bitze created a unique poster for the Toronto event, and concertgoers received limited edition silk-screened prints at the show along with JanSport backpacks throughout the event.
